STA Swimming Teacher Qualification
The STA Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification, is the perfect stepping stone for anybody that is 16 and over and wishes to teach non-swimmer, beginner and improver lessons.
This qualification could appeal to:
• Swim club swimmers, students
• Leisure duty manager, leisure assistants, lifeguards
• Fitness instructors, personal trainers
• Teaching assistants, sports coaches

STA Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification
The STA Swimming Teaching qualification gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills to be able to plan, deliver and evaluate safe, fun, progressive and inclusive lessons to adults and child learn to swim participants. Within a positive learning environment, learners will be able teach the essential swimming skills, strokes and water safety, appropriate to the participants needs across all ability groups.
The Assessment
- Completion of a MCQ paper
- Ongoing Tutor Assessment on a minimum of six planned 30 minute lessons, 3 hours in total, covering all ability groups, strokes and skills.
- Completion of 3 lesson plans
- Completion of lesson evaluation form including personal action planning
Qualification units
- Planning, Delivering and Evacuating Swimming Lessons
- Safe Swimming Teaching Practice, Industry Legislation
Entry Requirements
- Be 16 years of age or older at time of assessment
There are no previous qualifications or experience required, however it is advisable that learners have a minimum of level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
